This is just to
get you a little acquainted with us before you arrive...
Hotel Mopan was founded in 1973 by Jean U. Shaw, J.P., M.B.E.. She is a pioneer in
the Tourism Industry. In fact, she was the founding President of the
Belize Tourism Industry Association...

She is well-recognized for all her
time, effort and work for the
country of Belize and just earlier this year, my brother and I
accepted a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Belize Tourism Board
on her behalf. |

Her efforts were also honored by her being the
recipient of the title of M.B.E. title from the
Queen of England (Member of the British Empire). A title she was
very proud of.

Guest on our Verandah... A Favorite of Many Guests... A Place to
Congregate, Relax, have meetings... as you wish!
I am Jeannie... Jean's
daughter. My mom had two kids... a boy and a girl... Jeannie &
Tomy. My mom went on to greener pastures when she passed away
December 6th, 1999 and left us the biggest job of having to fill her
shoes - not to mention learning how to live without her.
There is so much
history to our mom, that we could build a whole web site on her
alone... We want you to know about her because when you get to
come and visit us, we want you to appreciate the history behind our
Hotel... the years that have been put into its presence and the work
that continues to be put there...
This is our bar /
lounge area. Our bar mostly
entertains our own guests and sometimes a few
of our local regulars!
We like to think of
Hotel Mopan as a home away from home for our guests. Actually, some
guests get so comfortable, they can sometimes be seen BEHIND the bar
instead of around it! :-)

My brother, Tomy, is
the main streamline to the Hotel now. I'm the girl on the back end
and I do Web Development as my primary business.
Nonetheless, we both
work hard to keep my mom's legacy alive. You can ask just about
anyone really involved with Tourism and if they didn't personally
know my mom, they know very much of her!
On another note, we
realise you have a choice when visiting Belize and so we appreciate
any business you bring or send our way. Our aim is to make your
visit to Belize a relaxing and fun one! Belize has so much to offer
you... we want to show you the best ways to enjoy as much of it as
possible.

lounge that sits just beyond the bar.
HOTEL
MOPAN is a small family operated hotel of colonial
structure located on the oldest street in the historical sector of
Belize City; a block from the historical St. John's Cathedral,
Government House Museum and only three blocks from the city centre.
Our 16 rooms are spacious with private bath and can accommodate up
to four persons comfortably. The top floor rooms allow for a
beautiful view of the Caribbean Sea for miles on out and our sun
deck allows for relaxing days in the sun and a star lit sky at
night. We also operate a small bar/lounge and restaurant serving
tasty Belizean dishes.

Being avid conservationists we pride ourselves on the fact that most
research and study groups visiting Belize choose to use the
MOPAN as
their base.
