365 Days a Year
What's one thing you look at daily? Your calendar. And most
people love receiving calendars--big and small. In fact,
calendars are the only form of advertising that people actually
ask for, according to the Calendar Advertising Council. Research
shows that when people don't receive their favorite free
calendar, they'll often call to ask for one. Calendars are not
only useful, but are perceived as having high gift value. They
help your company make repeat impressions in a controlled
environment at a low cost.

Upset Customers
Customer service experts estimate that someone who has had a
negative experience with your business will tell between 8 and
16 other people -- enough to seriously damage your reputation.
Do you know what your customers think?
Index card-sized customer surveys are a great way to
encourage customers to tell you what's good and bad about your
business. Include a postage-paid copy in every order you ship
out. Retailers can encourage customers to fill it out while
they're making a purchase. For more in-depth feedback, invite
your best clients to meet with you for breakfast or lunch at
least once a quarter.

Staying In
Business
Keeping the doors
open is the hardest part of owning your own business. It takes
more than being good at what you do. Here are ways to keep
meeting that challenge.
Give
customers more than they expect.
Agree on the services to perform and the rate, but in the
end give them more.
More
service, higher quality.
It doesn't have to cost you money.
Invest time
wisely.
It's the most valuable asset you can control, so spend it on
your clients.
Create a
quality image through quality work.
Clients hire you because they believe you can do the job on
time, within budget and better than your competitor.
Market your
business.
Don't wait until you complete one job before you start
another. Set time aside each day to do some marketing. Do it
with the same enthusiasm that you do all your work.
Take care
of yourself.
Remember - you are what's important to your client. Take
time to read, renew yourself spiritually, exercise and
relax.
